Run the Hitler Party Out of The White House!by Kesha Rogers
LaRouche Youth Movement HOUSTON, Sept. 25 Jeff Steinberg mobilized LaRouche Youth Movement organizers and contacts for battle after a hard-hitting briefing on the University of Texas-Austin campus. There were 15 youth contacts from the campus, plus five Boomer contacts that attended. He communicated the urgency that had to be taken in the next five weeks to stop fascism, and to make sure that we did not allow the Bush-Cheney team to plunge the U.S. into perpetual war and economic disaster. Following the discussion, there were many questions from the audience, which listened very attentively as Jeff laid out the battle that was on our hands.
When the meeting was over, Kesha encouraged everyone in the room to take lit and mobilize with us to destroy Dick Cheney and Tom DeLay. Almost everyone took bundles of lit, and some bought copies of the "Children of Satan" book. Over $100 was raised from the meeting. The next day we hit the campus again.
Three LYM members slipped off to organize at a local courthouse to make sure the population was not falling asleep as we approach the upcoming weeks of great importance. Shawna talked with one 19-year-old who told her that he was lucky enough to have teachers that were not so bad. She asked him why he thought this. He said that his Russian teacher told him about a guy in the 1850s that could add up consecutive numbers. "You mean, Gauss!" Shawna exclaimed. They then started to discuss Gauss's Fundamental Theorem of Algebra, and what the LYM is doing to revive these ideas. He excitedly left his contact information. Several other people at this site left with bundles and inspiration from the LYM. - Correcting Misconceptions -
On the campus, six LYM organizers saturated the place with LaRouche's "Real Democratic Platform for November 2004." The mission was 6,000 Platforms for the week. No lit would go back to Houston. One guy was freaking out about LaRouche taking votes from Kerry. Charlie explained LaRouche is doing what is necessary to make Kerry win. "But we've got to get Bush out!! LaRouche will steal Kerry's votes!" Charlie handed him the Platform and said to read the back. Skimming it for two seconds, he again blurted out his fear of Kerry not getting votes. "Read!!!" He calmed down as soon as he actually read Lyn's statement, happily correcting his misconception, and became a contact.
Chris asked a bored, pessimistic-looking girl, "Hey, do you know what a logarithmic spiral has to do with politics?" The question woke her up. "What?!" After a few initial protests, she doubled the square, and became completely intrigued with our movement and the power of the universe and her own mind. One student who had attended the Jeff Steinberg event organized with us the entire next day. He is very excited, and took extra bundles to get out until we return next week, and is planning to organize with us in Houston.
Although this is known as a liberal campus, Natalie ran into a string of nasty Republicans at the Austin campus. She mused that on that day, she was in a state, and must have acted as a magnet, attracting all the angry and confused people (who, not coincidentally, were Republicans!). She asked a strongly Democratic contact what they are going to do about all the Republicans on campus. He replied, "Oh, don't worry, they're freshmen. Give them a few weeks of ridicule, and they'll be Democrats."
Overall, great fun was had, with more to follow.
