June 29, 2007 (LPAC)--"For years he was known as chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney and assistant to President Bush. On Wednesday, I. Lewis `Scooter' Libby became federal inmate No. 28301-016," reports Associated Press, adding "The assignment of an inmate number by the U.S. Bureau of Prisons represents another step on the road to prison."

Libby's lawyers say the Bureau of Prisons has not yet assigned Libby to a prison or given him a date to surrender. According to the judge's comments at Libby's sentencing on June 5, that is expected to happen by early August.
