Judge Orders Stop to Military Outsourcing Contract

June 3, 2007 (LPAC)--A federal judge has ordered the U.S. Army to refrain from awarding a $475 million contract for security and intelligence services in Iraq, the Washington Post reported on Saturday. The judge's order came during proceedings in a civil suit filed by Brian X. Scott, 53, of Colorado, who argues that the military's use of private security contractors is "against America's core values" and violates an 1893 law that prohibits the government from hiring quasi-military forces. The 1893 law, known as the Anti-Pinkerton Act, was passed to prevent the hiring of mercenaries to break up labor organizing.
