U.S. Soldiers' Death Toll in Iraq: 1,000 in a Year
May 28, 2007 (LPAC)--From last Memorial Day until this one, the toll of U.S. soldiers and Marines lost in Iraq may reach 1,000, the Associated Press reported. The pace of both dead and wounded casualties is clearly continuing to increase. Some 980 U.S. troops had been killed from Memorial Day, 2006 through May 26, 2007, the largest death toll in a year since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. More than 450 troops have been killed in the first five months of 2007; and casualties for May 2007 may reach 120, the highest since the battle in Fallujah in November 2004.
More than 15,000 U.S. troops have been wounded in Iraq since the invasion.
