Nasrallah Warns Against Lebanon Falling into Cheney's Trap

May 26 (LPAC)--The Hezbollah leader in Lebanon, Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah warned the Lebanese government not to send the Lebanese Army into the Nahr el-Bared Palestinian refugee camp to attack the Fatah Al Islam Sunni group, and called instead for a negotiated solution.

In a televised address, the Shi'ite leader said that the conflict "in the north can be solved politically and through the judiciary in a way that protects the Lebanese army, our Palestinian brothers, the state and peace and stability without transforming Lebanon into a battleground in which we fight Al Qaida on behalf of the Americans," according to the Israeli newspaper, Ha'aretz today. While Nasrallah did not mention Vice President Dick Cheney by name, he said that an attack on the camps would drag Lebanon into the U.S. war against Al Qaida by attracting more Al Qaida terrorists into Lebanon.

Nasrallah said that Hezbollah gives "absolute support" to the Lebanese army, which is critical to keeping Lebanon together, but he said that entering the Palestinian camps will endanger the civilians, and could lead to further escalation.

In July, 2006, Hezbollah was the major target of the Cheney-approved Israeli attack on Lebanon, when 5,000 Lebanese civilians were killed. Hezbollah is well aware that Cheney and the U.S. neo-cons, with Saudi backing from Prince Bandar, were in fact funding and arming Fatah al Islam and other Sunni groups for potential attacks against Hezbollah itself.
