South Korea to Help Rebuild North's Colonial Railroad

May 19 (EIRNS)--South Korea is making plans to improve North Korea's antiquated rail system, basically unchanged since Korea was occupied as a Japanese colony from 1910-45. The condition of North Korea's rails parallels that of most undeveloped nations, where lines built to loot mineral wealth are all that exist.

South Korean Unification Minister Lee Jae-jung, said that cost was not an issue, according to Donga.com. "No matter how much it costs, it would be an investment for our economy," Lee said. Only one line, which connects to China, is currently operational, Lee said.
