Nuclear Desalination Put On World Agenda By Arab States
May 16 (EIRNS)--The best way to avoid war is through economic development. So, after, the GCC Summit also announced their desire for a peaceful nuclear power program in the Gulf region.
Lyndon LaRouche has long been an advocate of the use of nuclear power for water desalination in the Middle East, as the keystone of a comprehensive peace initiative based on economic development.
The General Secretariat of the GCC issued a communique yesterday, stating that a team of experts from the GCC will hold its first meeting with experts from the IAEA next Sunday, to draft a feasibility study of applications of nuclear power in the Gulf. The communique also stated that "the GCC states are endeavoring to use nuclear applications for generation of electricity and water desalination, as well in the fields of agriculture, medicine and industry." It emphasized that this move will not affect the role of oil and gas regionally or internationally, but would rather stabilize the petroleum market.
The statement noted that the final draft of the feasibility study will be presented for final ratification to the GCC Summit meeting in Muscat, Oman, which is scheduled for December 2007.
