Cheney's Wishes Fufilled: Russia Will Use MIRV Missiles To Nullify ABM Systems in Europe

May 8 (EIRNS)--Moscow will equip their new Topol-M rockets with multiple independently targetable (MIRV) warheads, Gen. Nikolai Solovtsov, the commander of the Strategic Rocket Forces, told reporters on Monday. This would allow them to penetrate any missile defense systems that might be built in Europe.

Solovtsov's statements come at abetween Russia and the United States, including over the stationing of portions of a U.S. anti-missile system in Eastern Europe.from the decades-old Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE) arms-control treaty, which the United States has never ratified.

Solovtsov said the Strategic Missile Forces would consider the new threats in their deployment plans. "If the U.S. proceeds with the air shield expansion plans, despite serious opposition from people in Europe, the Strategic Missile Forces will manage to take adequate measures to counter threats that may face Russia," Solovtsov said. He said the forces will complete the deployment of silo-based Topol-M systems in the Saratov Region in southern Russia and mobile systems in the Ivanovo Region in central Russia in 2010.

The forces' press service said that silo-based Topol-M systems on duty would total 48 by late 2007.
