Tony Blair for French President?

PARIS, May 9th (EIRNS)--In a fictional account in a French monthly, titled "Tony Blair in the Elysee," the British Prime Minister--who is shortly to announce his resignation in reality-- outpolls the three major French candidates in the recent presidential race.

As it turns out, the story in the April 2007 issue of Optimum is not so fantastic as one might think.

With the victory of Sarkozy, Blair's policies have won in France. Not only did the British PM twice call Sarkozy as soon as he was officially acknowledged the winner, but Blair went so far as to tape a short video, in which he congratulated in French , the French citizens for having made the "right" choice. The video originates from 10 Downing Street and has two versions: one in English and one in French.

Now, putting action into words, Blair will come to France as soon as next Friday to meet with Sarkozy, even before his inauguration. The discussion is supposed to address the issue of the European Union treaty which touches on questions of surrender of national sovereignty and the French constitution. Sarkozy wants to reopen the question, although in a simplified way. Indeed, it most probably will be a meeting where Blair gives him his marching orders.
