Wolfowitz's Friends Abandoning Him, Says LaRouche

May 8 (LPAC)--Lyndon LaRouche commented that it looks like most of Wolfowitz's friends are abandoning him. "So sorry, but in your next reincarnation--don't come back!" LaRouche quipped, with more reports piling up that he has been found in violation of ethics by a Bank board, and that European members of the World Bank governing board are considering withholding funds--as Britain did last September--because Wolfowitz has made the work of the Bank impossible.

Reports are also flying about what deals are in the works to get Wolfowitz out. According to one high level European banking source, Wolfowitz's attorney Robert Bennett has been engaged in heated talks with the World Bank board, trying to get the best possible severance deal for Wolfowitz. Other than going for the biggest money package he can get, Wolfowitz will be out, said the source, who has worked in banking circles in Washington close to the World Bank for 2 decades.

Meanwhile, today's New York Times reports that European countries will oppose the U.S. choosing future World Bank presidents, unless Wolfowitz leaves--soon! Briton Mark Malloch Brown told World Bank employees on Monday that as long as Wolfowitz is in charge, the Bank's anti-poverty agenda is "hugely at risk," because Europeans won't financing it.

As of now, says the New York Times, only the U.S., Canada and Japan would vote to retain Wolfowitz. The Times also reports that U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson favors letting Wolfowitz go, but that Vice President Cheney and President Bush are insisting on keeping him.
