Saginaw, Mich. Central Labor Council Passes Support for the State's Emergency HBPA Memorial

21 Dec 2007

December 21, 2007 (LPAC) --The Central Labor Council of Saginaw, Michigan, last night voted up a resolution to support Michigan H.R. 190, a memorial now in the Banking Committee of the Michigan House of Representatives, that calls on Congress to pass the emergency measures outlined in the LPAC HBPA--Homeowners and Bank Protection Act. The Chairman of the Michigan House Banking Committee is from Saginaw, and he will be receiving a copy of the CLC Dec. 20 Resolution, delivered to him in person by a CLC officer. This will make a distinct impression on the Representative, since Saginaw is an all-labor town (today a scene of shut-down auto plants), and any future election campaign funding that can be expected from labor, is now related to acting on the HBPA. Saginaw's population is 57,600, down from over 70,000 in the 1980s, reflecting the gutting of heavy industry in the Mid-West auto belt.
