More Backing for the HBPA from N.J. League of Municipalities

15 Nov 2007

November, 17, 2007 (LPAC)--The LaRouche Political Action Committee intervened into the annual convention of the NJ State League of Municipalities (There are 555 municipalities in the state) and found new support for LaRouche's Homeowners and Bank Protection Act (HBPA) to stop the mass foreclosures crisis and protect chartered banks from massive mortgage losses.

N.J. State Senate President, Richard Codey and eight other elected officials signed the call on Congress for the HBPA on the spot, and 70-80 mayors, city councilors, town councilors, state legislators, and others, became contacts of this mobilization.

So widely is HBPA now circulating, that he following cities and towns had individuals who told LPAC that either (1) the legislation was already sent to the legal staff to be prepared for passage, or the legislation would be presented to their councils: Irvington, Newark, East Orange, and Paterson.

Senator Codey, former acting governor of N.J. and President of the State Senate, listened to a short briefing on LaRouche's memorial to stop foreclosures and protect the chartered banks, grabbed the pen, and signed the petition. Another signer from Plainfield, in his 70's, praised LaRouche, and said "I'm not afraid to sign this petition..." The Mayor of Hackensack had heard us address the city council two weeks ago, and said when he signed, "I had an ARM, and they wanted $3,500/month from me..."

Finally, a city councilman from Newark, N.J., whom we had met earlier at the N.J. Democratic convention in August said he would introduce the legislation: "My mother got ripped off, and the mortgage company told her NOT to talk to her son!...there are for sale signs all throughout the west ward of Newark."
