November 8, 2007 (LPAC)--President Bush suffered his first veto override of his seven year old presidency today, as the Senate voted 79 to 14 to override the presidential veto of the Water Resources Development Act. This follows an override vote in the House of Representatives a few days ago.
The $23 billion Water Resources Development Act authorizes hundreds of Army Corps of Engineers projects, such as refurbishing the aged dams and locks on the Upper Mississippi system, and providing flood protection projects along the Gulf Coast. The Water Resources Development Act is the first water system restoration and flood control authorization passed by the Congress since the year 2000.
