Olmert Meets with Sarkozy

23 Oct 2007

October 23, 2007 (LPAC)--Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and French President Nicolas Sarkozy held discussions yesterday on the question of Iran's nuclear program. After the meeting, Olmert told Ha'aretz that "on the Iranian issue, I could not have heard statements that better satisfied my expectations." He said he did not discuss a military strike against Iran.

"There's a broad spectrum of measures between the extremes of capitulation and military action," Olmert said, adding that the UN and European Union had the options of increasing sanctions.

The secret of this agreement between Olmert and Sarkozy, is that both have met in the past two weeks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who briefed both leaders on proposals to the Iranians aimed at solving the Iranian nuclear crisis.

Sarkozy and Olmert also talked about Israeli-Palestinian issues, as well as the issue of a possible prisoner exchange between Israel and Hezbollah.
