German Leaders Respond to Breakdown with a 'Show of Existentialism' (Really)

29 Aug 2007

Aug. 29, 2007 (LPAC) --- This ought to be the moment for German Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück to initiate effective legislation against speculators, and, as acting chairman of the G-8 finance ministers, to open a discussion of a New Bretton Woods. But Steinbrück is instead absorbed by obligations originating with the political and moral degeneracy in Germany.

For example on Monday, when his Social Democratic Party arranged an obnoxious event on "Eros," featuring readings from the love letter exchange between Hannah Arendt and Nazi-philosopher Martin Heidegger, with Steinbrück performing Heidegger, his counterpart, as Arendt, was Karin Hempel-Soos, chairwoman of the Social Democratic women's organization. Apparently, the German Social Democrats need to go revisit Schiller, instead.
