August 18, 2007 (LPAC)--McClatchy Newspapers' Warren Strobel and co-author Nancy Youssef report in a column dated August 17, that U.S. ground commanders in Iraq are opposed to Dick Cheney's plans for attacks inside Iran, saying they believe that they can contain Iran's influence in Iraq inside Iraq. This echoes what number two U.S. commander Lt. Gen. Ray Odierno told reporters at the Pentagon, yesterday.
Privately, some officers are hostile to suggestions that the military strike another country, saying they are mired in Iraq. "Let them put on the uniform and go there, then," said one unnamed military official in Baghdad, referring to the Cheney war party.
