Freshman Congressman Infuriates Constituents With Pelosi's "Line"; LaRouche Says Sestak Should Know Better

17 Aug 2007

August 17, 2007 (LPAC)--Democratic freshman Congressman Joe Sestak infuriated 150 constituents who turned out in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania for a Town Hall Meeting on ending the Iraq War, by refusing to support the Impeachment of Dick Cheney.

Sestak, a retired Vice-Admiral who served more than 30 years in the U.S. Navy, and who won a narrow 51-49% victory in 2006 over a 20-year Republican veteran Curt Weldon through impressive grass roots support, found that the first question put to him at his Town Meeting last night was, "Why don't you go for impeachment?" The 60-year old questioner, who spoke with passion, began shaking when Sestak replied, "We don't have what we need. We can't even get a bill for stem cell research. Do you think we could get impeachment?" Virtually the entire audience yelled a loud "Yes!", to the Congressman's discomfort.

Next, Sestak called on a woman, who read a passage from the Declaration of Independence. She then asked, "What will it take for Congress to do the will of the American people?"

At that point, a number of people, including a young Iraq War veteran, who had worked hard on Sestak's campaign, began to walk out, with others. "Matt, are you leaving?" asked Sestak. "Say what you wanted to say." The young man responded, "You say we don't want to lose American troops. We are losing troops every day. What does it take to get you Congressmen to do what we want?"

American statesmen Lyndon LaRouche, briefed on this exchange, said, "What you have here is an Iraq war veteran who asks a question of a guy who should know better. The response here is a reflection of the fact that there's tremendous pressure to break the will of the Congress on behalf of the Pelosi line. Sestak came in on a good platform, but they squeezed his political testicles to get him on the Pelosi line. The current Democratic leadership is a minority in its own Party."

Sestak next called on a LaRouche supporter, who told the audience that there are 18 sponsors signed on to Rep. Dennis Kucinich's H. Res. 333 to impeach Cheney, who is now aiming for war with Iran. "Congress should be the sparkplug for his removal," she said.

Today's Philadelphia Daily News hurt Sestak even more, with prominent coverage of his Town Hall meeting, headlined, "Sestak: Impeachment is not the answer."
