Democrat Carville Says Rove Has Lost a Generation of Republicans

15 Aug 2007

Aug. 15, 2007 (LAPC)--Democratic pollster James Carville today pronounced his judgment on Karl Rove in London's Financial Times--and that is, that Rove appears to have lost an entire generation for the Republican Party.

A late July poll for Democracy Corps, shows that a generic Democratic Presidential candidate now wins voters under 30 years of age by 32 percentage points. The Republican lead among younger white non-colleged-educated men, who supported George W. Bush by a margin of 19 percentage points three years ago, has shrunk to 2 percentage points. Further, young voters favor larger government providing more services, 68 percent to 28 percent, and on every issue, responded ovewhelmingly that Democrats would do a better job.

While Carville is a principal of the non-profit Democracy Corps, he cites the Pew Research Center's March poll, which found that 50 percent of Americans identify as Democrats, and only 35 percent as Republicans. The June NBC-Wall Street Jounal poll found that 52 percent of Americans favor a Democratic President, and only 31 percent would support a Republican.
