Russia Designing Space Launch Site for South Korea

15 Aug 2007

August 15, 2007 (LPAC)--Russia is designing a space launch complex for South Korea on Pusan Island, Itar Tass reported today. "This is an unprecedented technological project, and work on it is in full swing," Alexei Gonchar, who is director-general of the Russian federal Design Bureau of Transport Machine-building, told Itar Tass. "Under the contract, our enterprise will ensure the first two launchings of a booster rocket from the South Korean island."

This project will manufacture just the space launch complex, Gonchar said. Russia's Khrunichev center, working with South Korea, will develop booster rockets.

With Russia's help, South Korea will launch its first booster rocket in late 2008.
