Rome Newswire on LaRouche's Visit to the Italian Senate

13 Jun 2007

June 13, 2007 (LPAC)--Italy's Il Velino newswire published today a news release on U.S. economist and statesman Lyndon LaRouche's Rome dialogue on the economy with Italian Senator Lidia Menapace. The release was issued by the Senate group of the Rifondazione Comunista Party (RCP) on June 6, when LaRouche and Senator Menapace appeared at a press conference. The release follows:

Senate: US Democratic Leader Lyndon LaRouche Meets Lidia Menapace

The policy carried out by the U.S.A. is no good either for Italy or the U.S.A. The Bush government is destroying the United States army and all its choices cannot certainly be characterized as pro-American. This was stated by U.S. Democratic Party leader Lyndon LaRouche, during the meeting today at the conference room in Palazzo Madama [the Senate building, ed.], with Sen. Lidia Menapace, chairwoman of the Investigating Committee on depleted uranium, on the issue: "A different voice from America.''

Thus the U.S. economist, who has for years promoted an impeachment initiative against Vice-president Cheney--considering this as being the only viable way for ending the Iraq war--answered the remarks by the Rifondazione Senator. She introduced the meeting by stating: "We chose to listen to a different voice from America, because Italian media usually report only the voice of the current governments. When we make a critique against the United States,'' Menapace stated, "we are accused of being anti-American. It is therefore important for us to speak with an American who in Italy would be characterized as 'anti-American'.''

The dialogue between the two politicians centered on several topics: from the concept of Common Good, which finds its roots in Classical Greece, to modern nuclear physics that could be used for pacific purposes, to produce low-cost energy. Instead of investing in wars that will never be won,'' they said, "we should invest in the development of civilian infrastructures, in the scientific education of the youth, in the research of alternative energy sources to oil, in saving and in fair management of drinking water.''
