British-Run Hedge Fund Gangs Hit Germany
June 2, 2007 (LPAC)--On the eve of the G-8 summit to be held in Heiligendamm, Germany on June 6-8, a large protest gathering was arranged for the neighboring city of Rostock, including protesters of the so-called "anti-fascist" and "anti-Deutschen" grouplets organized to protect the hedge funds.
Police were expecting over 100,000 protesters in the city, and brought 13,000 law enforcement from all over Germany. The actual crowd was estimated by law enforcement to be 25,000 strong, and by protesters to 80,000 strong, according to USA Today of June 2.
As threatened by the protesters for the last six months, violence broke out. At some point, Saturday, a group wearing black hoods began assaulting police with rocks and bottles, and police dispersed the crowd with water cannon and tear gas. Police sustained 146 injuries, 25 serious, and there were 17 arrests.
This was not just a spontaneous clash due to high emotions, but is a purposeful incitement by elements in the crowd anxious to create chaos around the G-8 summit, to be hosted by Germany.
