October 9, 2008 (LPAC) -- The nation of Iceland is faced with an extreme financial situation, and the SI is contacting political leaders and ministry functionaries in Iceland, to inform them about the international campaign for LaRouche's NBW. Several MP's have been briefed so far, as well as people in the relevant ministries. One called back saying that he was on a speaker phone with two others listening. In addition to LaRouche's 3-point plan, they are being briefed about the growing support for the NBW idea in Russia, France and Italy, and our fight in the U.S. Congress and population. The latest material was sent by e-mail.
Some had heard of LaRouche, or the Schiller Institute, but didn't know much about them. One MP said that her party had been warning against financial speculation since 1999, and especially since the privatization of the Icelandic National Bank in 2002. Another said that it is clear that we need a new course -- there is only the question of which way to go. One also made the point that the Icelandic approach was different from Paulson's "bail out the speculators" plan -- that the government was trying to protect the society instead. From people in the ministries, one asked if the NBW is like the old BW, and another asked for more details about the recent developments in support of a NBW.
