Gen. Ivashov Warns of New 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis

04 Sep 2008

August 29, 2008 (LPAC)--Previous reports of the content of the remarks made by senior Russian military analyst Gen. Leonid Ivashov in a news conference at RIA Novosti on August 27 did not accurately reflect the substance of his strategic assessment. Rather than focusing primarily on the threat of war against Iran, what Ivashov actually said was that the crisis in Georgia could lead to a new Cuban missile crisis as in 1962. Ivashov said: "I do not exclude that our relations with the West will reach the period of 1962, i.e., the Caribbean crisis," which is a reference to the 1962 Cuban missile crisis.

Lyndon LaRouche has warned that the policy of the Anglo-Dutch financial oligarchy and its stooges like Nazi-collaborator George Soros is in fact leading to the creation a reverse Cuban missile crisis.

Ivashov's actual assessment was covered in Argumenty i fakty, Russia's largest circulation paper: "Former chief of the Main Directorate for International Military Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Defense President of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems Gen. Col. (ret.) Leonid Ivashov believes that the situation connected with the Georgian-Ossetian conflict could lead to the kind of showdown between Russia and the USA, such as there was during the Caribbean crisis of 1962."

The business daily Vzglyad of tomorrow headlines, "The world awaits a new Caribbean crisis."

The article located the danger of such a crisis in the context of the global financial collapse:

"We see that certain strategic preparations are under way in the United States and NATO countries. At what point they will stop, is difficult to say. The local Georgian conflict was not an end in itself. This is merely the trigger mechanism of a big and complex game, a geopolitical operation. That it's anti-Russian in nature is beyond a doubt.
"Creating instability and chaos in other regions is becoming Washington's main policy. Some American leaders are already talking about that openly. Another sign that the West does not exclude the possibility of trying to solve the existing problems through military cataclysms is that even at the G8, the problem of the global financial crisis was not discussed."
