Xinhua: Pelosi `The Most Disgusting Figure'

21 Apr 2008

April 13, 2008 (LPAC) -- If an internet opinion poll were carried out in China today, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would top the list of those seen as "the most disgusting figure," the Chinese news agency Xinhua reported today.

Pelosi's role in intervening in Chinese affairs by promoting Tibet independence (one of the oldest of British games in the region), and her threats of boycotting the Olympic Games, are what have the Chinese furious. "How can such an irresponsible political figure not be detested by all the Chinese people?" Xinhua asks.

Tibet has been a pawn in British colonial strategy since the time of Britain's Opium War in the 1840s, when Britain used gun boats to try to force the Empress to accept British opium, produced in their Indian colony. Britain launched two invasions into Tibet, in 1888 and during 1903-04, in an attempt to build up its exclusive colonial influence there. The British tried to separate Tibet from China and make it a "buffer zone" between China and British-controlled India.

Why is the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives continuing a policy that made our historic enemy Britain into the most hated colonial power in the world?
