LAROUCHEPAC:

Call For Pecora-Like Commission From Chair of Danish Parliament's Political Economic Committee
May 10, 2009 • 12:50PM

Just one week after Helga Zepp-LaRouche's Copenhagen visit, where she concentrated on urging politicians to establish a Pecora Commission, and put the New Bretton Woods back on the table, MP Frank Aaen, from the far-left Unity Party, called for establishing a parliamentary commission to investigate what led to the financial crisis, and who was responsible for it. Making the call from the Unity Party national meeting, Aaen said that his inspiration came from the commission established in Iceland, reported Denmark's Radio's national news this afternoon. Aaen is the financial spokesman for his party, and the chairman of the Parliament's Political-Economic Committee, before which the Schiller Institute has testified three times, including the call for a Pecora Commission, and bringing Lyndon LaRouche to Denmark, to address the Parliament about the crisis's causes and solutions.

Last week, Helga Zepp-LaRouche held two private meetings with relevant MPs, in which the need to establish a Pecora Commission was a major focus. In addition to the two meetings, the Schiller Institute had sent out letters, with the Pecora Commission call, and tried to reach by phone, the leaders of the seven parliamentary parties, the relevant individual MPs, and government ministers. The leading press were either called or reached by email. All embassies were also contacted individually and by email.

The radio quoted a portion of Aaen's speech, in which he said that the goal is not to personally hunt down the chairman of the largest bank, or the former economics minister who spent his time golfing, while allowing less control of the banks — the voters should do that — but to put a focus on the system that created the crisis. Aaen was interviewed by the TV news, saying that it is important to investigate the system that caused the crisis, including the liberalization (deregulation) of the banks. Aaen was one of only three MPs to vote against the last Danish bank bail-out package.

As reported by the radio, Aaen's call is being supported by the financial spokesman for the Social Democratic Party, Martin Boedskov, who said that it is necessary for the future, to know how the crisis came about. The Schiller Institute in Denmark, known as "the financial crisis people," will now intensify their mobilization.
