November 17, 2008 (LPAC)--Politico.com reported today that Barack Obama will name attorney Gregory Craig, an Obama foreign policy adviser, to be White House Counsel. Craig is a protege of the late Washington wheeler-dealer attorney, Edward Bennett Williams, and a former aide to Madeleine Albright. Craig has been characterized as a "janitor for Ted Kennedy," for whom Craig worked for five years. When Kennedy makes a mess, Craig comes in to clean up, as when Kennedy got caught in the middle of his nephew Kennedy Smith's rape case. Craig was the lawyer for John Hinckley, Jr., who attempted the assassination of President Ronald Reagan. The media has jumped on the fact that he was an attorney for President Bill Clinton, during the impeachment trial in the Senate, to argue that Craig is part of a growing list of ``Clinton veterans'' who are coming into the Obama administration. But sources close to the Clintons say that Craig was always known as a Kennedy family operative, and has no loyalties or deep associations with the Clinton circles.
