Russian Gen. Ivashov Says Georgia Attack Was a Dry Run for Iran

August 27, 2008 (LPAC)--Senior Russian military analyst Gen. Leonid Ivashov today told a news conference at RIA Novosti that the U.S. and NATO arming of Georgia for their attack on South Ossetia was a dress rehearsal for a future military operation in Iran.

"We are close to a serious conflict... In the operation the West conducted on Georgian soil against Russia...we can see a rehearsal for an attack on Iran." Gen. Ivashov, who is highly regarded in active-duty Russian military circles, added that the likelihood of a war against Iran was growing daily, and that "causing chaos and instability" was becoming Washington's official policy line, along with the intention of neutralizing Russia as a global player.
