LaRouche Expresses Further regret at Musharraf Resignation

AUG. 20,2008 (LPAC)--Lyndon LaRouche today reiterated his regret at the turn of events in Pakistan, especially the resignation of President Musharraf, who stepped down in the face of impeachment threat from forces under the control of Saudi Arabia and the “BAE faction'' in Britain.

LaRouche particularly singled out the Bush White House for having committed “another massive act of strategic stupidity,'' in failing to fight for Musharraf's continuation in power. “The Bush White House is absolutely indifferent to the situation on the ground'' in Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan, LaRouche charged. “It is looking more and more like the White House has been outright bought up by the Saudis, judging from some of the policies coming out of Bush and company.''

LaRouche was specifically referring to reports that the Saudi-backed former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, had played a particularly vicious role in the drive to oust President Musharraf; and that Saudi funds are continuing to pour into Taliban and other insurgents, who have established a near impenetrable base of operations, within the tribal and northwest frontier regions of Pakistan, bordering on Afghanistan. Additionally, the Bush White House has continued to turn a blind eye on the fact that Afghanistan and Pakistan are at the very center of the British opium war, providing 90 percent of the world's heroin supply, which generates an estimated $160 billion a year in black market revenue, much of which passes through British offshore unregulated financial centers. A sizeable portion of the opium revenues bankroll Pakistan's ISI intelligence service, and finance the Taliban and other insurgencies in Afghanistan.

“President Musharraf's regrettable retirement will only make matters worse,'' LaRouche concluded, “and for that, I hold President Bush and the Bush White House responsible. Any serious American President would have put his foot down, and demanded that the Saudis, and their British allies, stop their interference in the Pakistan situation.''
