Food Shortages Hit US Grocery Stores

April 21, 2008 (LPAC) - A sign posted on a Costco store in California
today reads: "Due to the limited availability of rice, we are
limiting rice purchases based on your prior purchasing history."
In some cases, the problem arose when Philippines overseas
workers in the U.S. began purchasing numerous 40 pound rice bags to
ship back to the Philippines, where the government has been
unable to purchase the needed rice at any price.

The NY Sun reported that Costco in New York was limiting oil
and flour sales.
