April 11, 2008 (LPAC)--Daniel Magnowski, writing for Reuters from London, publishes a shameless article "Mining Firms Salivate Over Untapped Areas of Zimbabwe," in today's International Herald Tribune (IHT) stating bluntly, that even before the final results of Zimbabwe's elections were released, "the world's resource companies could be lining up to rebuild Zimbabwe's once mighty gold mines and metal refineries if President Robert Mugabe's government falls." The article then quotes analysts who refer to Zimbabwe as a "treasure trove for miners," "a hardly undiscovered ground for the world miners," harboring gold, diamonds, and precious platinum. "Not all the problems are political," says an observer, referring to the small mining companies that exploited the country so far. Showing how "unpolitical" it all is, Magnowski writes that miners just want a good mining law and a stable tax environment because "under Mugabe, stability has been rare," because current legislation "has been used by the government as an extortion hook" that confronts miners with "arbitrary decisions." Poor things, those miners.
