Tell the Truth Mr. Paulson

March 31, 2008 (LPAC)--Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson should come clean with the American people about the nature of the financial crisis, and tell the truth about the problem he is trying to solve. What Mr. Paulson knows, but will not say, is that the financial system has collapsed, the financial markets have frozen, and the big financial institutions have gone bankrupt. The proposals Paulson is pushing are designed to protect the banking system from the effects of the collapse, by further removing the Government's ability to intervene to protect the population. This has nothing to do with streamlining and modernizing regulation, as Mr. Paulson would have us believe: The real issue is that the bankers are attempting--illegally--to save themselves and dump the losses on the people, and that our government is going along with this plan. Mr. Paulson, you are no longer an official at Goldman Sachs, but the Treasury Secretary of the United States, sworn to uphold the Constitution. Your responsibility is to the nation, not the money, and if you are unwilling to meet your sworn obligations, you should resign.
