January 21, 2008 (LPAC) -- Indicating the level of disorientation currently infecting leading lawmakers, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) opened the bidding period for private companies to vie for leasing the historic Pennsylvania Turnpike on Jan. 18, purportedly to raise money for the state's budget needs. In 1936, Pennsylvania opened a stretch of superhighway near Carlisle, as the first modern turnpike in the nation; today it spans 360 miles statewide.
"This is evidence of how mentally disoriented members of Congress have become," Lyndon LaRouche said of the proposal. "These people are acting insane. If they were not insane, they would recognize that this is stupid. They are under pressure," LaRouche said. They are resorting to actions that are "bad, destructive, and do no good." Some members of Congress are pushing this, said LaRouche. "The fact is, this shows how deeply demoralized they've become ... under the kind of leadership, particularly provided by Pelosi and her policies, and those of others in the same category."
There is stiff opposition to the governor's toll proposal from both parties in Harrisburg. But some support an equally nutty alternative--to collect tolls on Interstate 80, spanning the state to the north.
On Jan. 19 in California, Rendell joined the fascist duo of Governor Schwarzenegger and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, at a press conference, promoting "infrastructure building" through special, private schemes.
