January 15, 2008 (LPAC) -- Two political operators--Gerald Rafshoon, who ran the public relations campaign that helped get Jimmy Carter elected in 1976, and Douglas Bailey, who has been representing Republican candidates since 1968-- apparently believe that Michael Bloomberg should be the next president because he is "unique," "innovative," and "non-ideological." And, his ability to self- finance a presidential campaign means that "he's beholden to no one." Their announcement of a "Draft Michael Bloomberg" Committee to a half-filled room at the National Press Club this morning went over like cold butter.
The dispirited duo read through a laundry list of problems facing the nation but could not, or would not, say what Bloomberg's policies would be to attack those problems. When Executive Intelligence Review's Anton Chaitkin confronted them with the fact of Bloomberg's meeting with Michael Steinhardt in 2006 and that Bloomberg's candidacy appears to relate to efforts against the Franklin Roosevelt tendency in the Democratic Party and is targeting the Clintons in particular, Bailey replied "I don't know how to respond to that." When Chaitkin followed up noting that Bloomberg's policies in New York mean cutting entitlements and reducing living standards, Bailey answered that "I'm not aware of that at all."
When another reporter insisted on asking what Bloomberg's policies were, Rafshoon expressed the "hope" that Bloomberg "would have a non-ideological approach" to making policy. Bailey followed up by reading off his laundry list of problems then declaring "He's the right man for the job."
LaRouche's response: "Call out the sanitation department to clean up the Bloomberg flops."
