More Breakthroughs on the Homeowner And Bank Protection Act

Crece el apoyo a la Ley de Protección a los Bancos y Propietarios de Vivienda

January 9, 2008 (LPAC)--As the physical collapse accelerates and state legislatures across the country are opening, support is growing for the HBPA.

  • In New Hampshire, the HBPA has been introduced as HCR 14. Public hearings are now scheduled for Jan. 22. LPAC plans to deploy to the state house to organize other members of the legislature to co-sponsor the resolution.
  • In Rhode Island where we have a primary sponsor, the resolution has been drafted and has just today received a bill number.
  • In Virginia, although the bill does not yet have a sponsor, two state legislators have signed a resolution supporting the HBPA and work will continue to organize a sponsor.
  • In Maryland, the HBPA has been Introduced as HJR1 and now has two cosponsors.
  • In Pennsylvania, a resolution entitled HR 418 has already been submitted, with numerous co-sponsors and hearings have been held in committee. The number of cities to date, which have endorsed it is 26. Recent additions this week are the municipalities of Tyrone, Arnold, and Ambridge which all modeled their resolutions on that which was passed in Newcastle PA. The City of Clairton and the Bourough of Hamburg wrote up a resolution taken word for word from HR 418. Many more city councils in the state are expected to pass resolutions next week.
  • In the Midwest, the city of East Cleveland has just passed it. Two of our youth members are down in Missouri where in one day they gathered together eleven co-sponsors to Rep. Juanita Walton's Bill for the HBPA.
  • Down in Texas the LYM has been making trips to the Austin state house and also the worst hit areas around Dallas and Fort Worth. Currently they're gathering support in south Texas where the border town of Brownsville has just passed the HBPA unanimously.

So a lot of potential which has been stored away over this winter recess is now ready for a complete break-out. There will be much more to come.
