Nineteen Towns in Pennsylvania Demand HBPA

December 20, 2007 (LPAC)--This week, three more Pennsylvania municipalities-- Norristown (population: 31,000), Conshohocken (population: 8500) and Nesquehoning (population: 3300)-- have adopted resolutions supporting the HBPA and State Rep. Harold James' Pennsylvania House Resolution 418, bringing the total to nineteen, with several others sending letters and messages of support. Norristown and Conshohocken, both in Montgomery County, became the first municipalities in suburban Philadelphia to pass support resolutions; the Borough of Nesquehoning lies in the old anthracite coal belt of Carbon County in northeast Pennsylvania. The resolutions are modeled on the one adopted November 8 by the City Council of New Castle, PA.

The Municipal Council of Norristown, which is also the Montgomery County seat, elaborated the "Resolved" clause as follows: "Now, Therefore, be it resolved by the Council of the Municipality of Norristown, that Council urges State Representative Jay Moyer and State Representative Mike Vereb and the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to ask Congressman James Gerlach and United States Senators Arlen Specter and Bob Casey, Jr. to support the measures suggested in Pennsylvania House Resolution 418. Furthermore, Council directs the Administration to send copies of this Resolution to the aforesaid elected Officials."
