China to U.S.: No More Ping-Pong Diplomacy--It's Time for Tough Talk

China le dice a EU: No más diplomacia de ping-pong; hay que hablar en serio

December 11, 2007 (LPAC)--With the two-day Strategic Economic Dialogue between the United States and China scheduled to begin on Dec.12, China made clear to U.S. Secretary of Treasury Henry Paulson that Wall Street cannot dictate terms to Beijing.

"We should avoid unreasonably and unilaterally blaming the other side," Vice Commerce Minister Chen Deming was quoted as saying in the government's English-language China Daily. Chen also warned that a trend for Americans to politicize trade issues could escalate as next year's presidential election approached, according to the paper.

Chinese Finance Minister Xie Xuren also cautioned that bilateral relations would suffer if bills before U.S. Congress concerning trade ties between the two sides were passed. "If some legislative bills currently before U.S. Congress are passed, they will cause serious harm to China-US economic and trade cooperation and to the interests of the US itself," the official Xinhua news agency said on Dec. 9, quoting Xie.

This further confirms Lyndon LaRouche's warning of November 14, that if the US Congress continued showing "imperial contempt" towards China, it would precipitate an already brewing onset of a general breakdown crisis.

A team of senior U.S. officials are accompanying Paulson on this trip, including Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, Trade Representative Susan Schwab, and Health Secretary Mike Leavitt.
