Syria to Attend Annapolis Peace Conference; Focus on Israel-Syria Talks as Basis for Peace

November 26, 2007 (LPAC)—Last week physical economist and statesman Lyndon LaRouche made a crucial statement: "To Leave Pakistan Alone and to Focus on Israel-Syria Relations as the Basis for Peace." He also made an endorsement of Shimon Peres' peace negotiations, in late September. These must be the dynamic concepts to shape the discussion for the November 27th Annapolis Meeting.

Syria has announced it will attend the Annapolis Peace Summit at the level of deputy foreign minister. Syrian News Agency, as quoted by the Daily Star, announced that Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad will head the delegation adding that the decision was made "after the Syria track was added to the conference agenda."

Syrian Information Minister Mohsen Bilal told Al-Jazeera that Syria decided to attend to discuss the Palestinian issue, the Golan Heights and the "possibility of the resumption of the peace process."

Commenting on Syrian participation in the conference, Olmert, who is now in the U.S., said: "If the negotiations with Syrians narrow down, I will consider them positively. I hope this meeting will allow us to engage in serious negotiations on all the problems to the end that there could be two national states for the two peoples."

LaRouche commented last week, to frame this meeting on the idea that negotiations between Israel and Syria must go ahead. And, this will change the whole environment in a way in which the Palestine-Israel issue can be successfully addressed.

Olmert, the Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, and the Defense Minister Ehud Barak, will all be meeting with President George Bush today. Olmert said that he will discuss Iran with Bush as well.

This conference can really develop some daylight; but we must keep in mind that as long as Cheney is lurking around, his British controllers want war with Iran.

Take LaRouche’s advice and let us begin to make real progress with this opportunity.
