November 22, 2007 (LPAC)--Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, who headed U.S. combat operations in Iraq in 2003 and 2004, says that he supports Democratic-sponsored legislation which calls for bringing home most U.S. troops by the end of 2008, according to Associated Press.
In a statement to be broadcast on Saturday for the weekly Democratic radio address, Sanchez says that Iraqi leaders are not doing what is necessary to bring peace to their country, and the U.S. can't force them to do so. He adds that the bill passed by House Democrats, which President Bush is threatening to veto, "makes the proper preparation of our deploying troops a priority, and requires the type of shift in their mission that will allow their numbers to be reduced substantially."
Last month, Sanchez said that the U.S. mission in Iraq is a "nightmare with no end in sight."
