October 22, 2007 (LPAC)--Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert continues to voice support for Russian President Vladimir Putin's Iran policy. He is quoted in the Jerusalem Post as saying Putin would not "put Israel in a place where it could be threatened." He told reporters on route to Paris that his meetings in Russia were "serious and important" and that he was "satisfied" with his discussions with the Russian President.
It was also revealed that Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Saltanov and Russian envoy to the so called Quartet of Middle East mediators, Sergei Yakaovlev, arrived in Israel on Sunday for two days of talks. Although talks are said to focus on the Israeli-Palestinian track, the question of Iran will also be under discussion. The two are set to meet Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
Olmert is scheduled to meet French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who has himself recently returned from Moscow, where he discussed the Iran file with Putin.
The Israeli Prime Minister will also travel to London where he will meet British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Tuesday.
On the same day Olmert will also meet Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyib Erdogan who is also in London.
