October 12, 2007 (LPAC)--An organization called the International Academy of Environmental Sciences (AES), which in reality is a Venice-based operation with some Argentine input, has started a campaign for establishing an International Criminal Court to Protect Ecosystems, Human and Environmental Health. The Dalai Lama is among the prominent supporters, as well as Michael Gorbachev and Venice Mayor Massimo Cacciari. More research into this might reveal the typical British hand.
The International Criminal Court will review its statute in 2009. In February 2007, the EU Commission drafted a list of crimes against the environment, to be used as guidelines on crimes. The same year, the AES has adopted a "Charter of Venice" on environmental crimes, which now is incorporated into its proposal for the International Criminal Court.
