Why Are the British Pulling Out of Iraq?

October 8, 2007 (LPAC)--British Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced today that come Spring 2008, Britain will have only 2,500 troops left in Iraq. Only days ago, Brown announced a pullout of 1,000 troops, so that Britain will have about 4,500 troops in Iraq by year's end, mainly at an air base camp on the fringe of Basra in southern Iraq.

Brown told the Parliament Monday that a decision on further cuts will be made once the reduction to 2,500 is complete.

Around 500 British logistics and support staff will be moved outside Iraq, but stay within the Middle East, to support the remaining troops, Brown said. They are likely to be based in Kuwait, said officials speaking on condition of anonymity.
