Israeli Journalist Tours Damascus, Part of Pro-Talks Moves

September 28, 2007 (LPAC)--As part of a factional move in Israel for opening peace negotiations with Syria, Israeli journalist Ron Ben Yishai, of the mass-circulation daily Yediot Ahronot, is continuing his unprecedented tour of Syria. Ynetnews published a brief report on his visit to Damascus, with photos of Ben Yishai at the Damascus synagogue, the Damascus Bazaar and crossing a foot bridge over the Euphrates.

The tour is said to be totally unofficial, and is even hinted to be "clandestine," but this is highly doubtful. Although many Israelis own a second passport from a European or other country, which allows them entry into Arab "enemy" countries, such travel is actually illegal for Israelis, who can be accused of treason. Also, Ben Yishai is well-known, and his article always feature his picture. Normally the Syrians do not allow Israeli journalists to run around the country, no matter what passport they may have.

The publisher of Yediot Ahronot is a good friend of Israeli President Shimon Peres, who recently called for opening negotiations with Syria. Peres's call has been strongly endorsed by Lyndon LaRouche.
