September 24, 2007 (LPAC)--In yet another unfounded report, the Sunday Times of London, claimed that Israeli commandos, under the personal command of Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, captured nuclear material, supplied by North Korea, in Syria. This was quickly denied by Syrian Information minister Muhsin Bilal.
"These reports are not true. This is a baseless fabrication like the ones that have been spread against Iraq, Bilal told the Arab daily, Sharq Al Awsat and reported in today's Ynet. He warned that Israel has been staging provocations. "Everything is possible. Israel has America's support. They are provoking the international community and have not implemented even one Security Council resolution. They say one thing and do something else."
Warning that Israel's overflights on September 6 have all but killed chances for peace talks, an unnamed Syrian official told Reuters, "After this raid, you can forget about peace. It is no secret that our forces have been on alert for some time, but Syria will not be the first to start a war."
