September 18, 2007 (LPAC)—In the latest of a dramatic series of interventions and statements, the director of the International Atomic Energy Agency Dr. Mohammed ElBaradei, has again warned against going to war against Iran.
"I would not talk about any use of force," ElBaradei is quoted in the British Guardian as having told reporters at his Vienna headquarters. "There are rules on how to use force, and I would hope that everybody would have gotten the lesson after the Iraq situation, where 700,000 innocent civilians have lost their lives on the suspicion that a country had nuclear weapons."
He was backed up by another official who said, "There's a strategic reason for doing these things. He [ElBaradei] really is alarmed. He see the thing going out of control. The feeling around here is that this looks like the run-up to the Iraq war."
