U.S. Envoy to Six-Party Talks on North Korea Counters Syria/NK Hysteria

Sept. 15, 2007 (LPAC)--Assistant Secretary of State for Asian Affairs Christopher Hill, who has been the U.S. envoy to the Six Party Talks on North Korea's nuclear program since February, 2005, issued what amounts to a rebuke to those in the Bush Administration, including within the State Department, like Andrew Semmel, who are claiming that North Korea may have supplied nuclear technology to Syria.

Hill made the statements at a briefing on the negotiations with North Korea, which have reached a critical point, where the promise by North Korea to shut down nuclear facilities will be discussed next week in Beijing. For the last week, anonymous Israeli and neo-conservative disinformation sources, and John Bolton, the Cheney-ac who was former UN Ambassador, have been pouring out hysterical stories that Syria is receiving nuclear weapons technology from North Korea.

Hit with a question on this story, Hill said, "The reason we have the six-party process, and the reason we have put together a number of pretty serious countries in this process, is to make sure that the North Koreans get out of the nuclear business," reports the Washington Post(erior). "At the end of all this, we would expect to have a pretty clear idea of whether they have engaged in proliferation in other countries," Hill added.
