Sept. 13, 2007 (LPAC) In addition to a special lending window of 269 billion euros in one week loans, decided upon by the European Central Bank on Tuesday, the ECB has now decided to increase lending from its three-months window. The ECB granted 75 billion euro to a total of 140 (!) banks that had asked for extra three-month money. This is only the second time that they have extended emergency three-month money. The amount requested, 139 billion, was up from 126 billion requested in late August, and the number of banks depending on such emergency loans has rapidly increased, from the 40-50 banks in mid-August to 140 now. New Bretton Woods, anyone?
