September 11, 2007 (LPAC)--Hezbollah as well as others, are now saying that Israel's penetration of Syrian Air space by Israeli war plans was practice for an attack on Iran.
Time magazine reports that Mohammed Raad, a senior Hezbollah official, said that the Israeli overflights were an attempt to "identify an aggressive aerial passage" for an air strike against Iran. Elaborating on Raad's statement, Time writes that an Israeli attack on Iran could be carried out by flying over Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, but that neither Jordan nor Saudi Arabia would tolerate it. Time then writes, "an alternative would be to follow the Turkish-Syrian border eastward to Iraqi Kurdistan, and then on to Iran."
In addition a website connected to Hezbollah in Lebanon (almanar.com.lb) reported today that, Israeli media sources "focused on the jet fuel tanks which were dropped over Turkish territory, which is of the type used by the Israeli F-15 jets that are capable of hitting targets inside the depth of the Iranian territories. This sheds some light over the fact that the Israeli flights last week were aiming far beyond Syria.
The Israeli news site, debka.com, also suggests that the purpose of the flight was to test the new Russian defense technology that both Syria and Iran just installed to protect their airspace.
