The Beat Goes On--For Bombing Iran

August 25, 2007 (LPAC)--The drum-beat for bombing Iran continues unabated in the international news media. Former CIA officer Bob Baer, warned in a recent TIME magazine article that the Bush-Cheney White House is intent on bombing Iranian Revolutionary Guard targets before the end of the year. In an interview with The Weekend Australian today, Baer repeated reports he has received from top Bush Administration and intelligence community sources, that an attack on Iran will take place before Jan. 2008. "What I'm getting,'' he told the Australian newspaper, "is a sense that their sentiment is they are going to hit the Iranians and not just because of Israel, but due to the fact that Iran is the predominant power in the Gulf and it is hostile and its power is creeping into the Gulf at every level.''

On Friday, Aug. 24, RAW STORY's Larisa Alexandrovna reported interviews with two former CIA officials, who both confirmed Bush Administration plans to "frame'' Iran for the failures of the U.S. surge policy in Iraq, thus creating the casus belli for military strikes against Iranian targets. "If you were to report that a US surgical strike against key targets in Iran were to happen sooner rather than later, you would not be wrong,'' one of the two ex-case officers said. The sources singled out Vice President Dick Cheney as the driver of the bomb Iran campaign, and cited the recent reports that the Bush Administration will soon name the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp as an "international terrorist organization'' as one of a number of Cheney-orchestrated provocations, calculated to provoke an incident that would then justify U.S. attacks on Iran.
