Kirchner Names Enemy Banks of Argentina

July 26, 2007 (LPAC)--In a hard-hitting speech July 26 at the Casa Rosada, Argentina's President Kirchner exposed the German investment fund Allianz-Dresdner, as well as Citibank, Banco Santander, HSBC and J.P. Morgan, as the entities that have sold off $300 million in peso-denominated bonds indexed to inflation over the past 48 hours, forcing the inflation rate up and making a killing. The Argentine President emphasized that no one should be deceived by these groupings' claims that they care about the citizenry:

"No, there is something else going on here," he said. "This is concrete reality, and people have to know this, including the Justice system, because this shows who they are...We know perfectly well that doubts regarding inflation are generated by these investment funds. ...These are the interests that want to prosper at Argentina's expense...I'm giving you concrete information about who's been selling these bonds over the past few hours--through which banks, and which funds were most involved."
