Canada's Lesson About BAE: Don't Buy a Used Submarine From These Guys

June 26, 2007 (LPAC)--Canada, too, has learned a lesson or two about doing business with the corrupt British arms manufacturer BAE, now embroiled in scandals across the globe. It seems that in 1998 Canada bought four used submarines from the British Ministry of Defense, with BAE to refurbish them for Canadian use. In October 2004 the last of the four, re-named the HMCS Chicoutimi, left BAE's facilities in the British Isles for delivery in Canada, but 120 miles off the coast of Ireland, the electrical system blew out, sending smoke throughout the ship. One Canadian sailor died and others were injured, as the ship was towed back to dock.

As to the other three ships that made it to Canada -- as of 2004, none of them were yet in service due to other mechanical problems.

Lyndon LaRouche asked that it be reported that "I am not buying any used submarines from BAE after what they did to our Canadian friends."
